National Drinking Water Week

National Drinking Water Week is held the first week of May (May 1 through 7). It is a time designed to raise public awareness of and increase involvement in public and private drinking water issues. For more than 35 years, the American Water Works Association and its members have celebrated Drinking Water Week—a unique opportunity for both water professionals and the communities they serve to join together in recognizing the vital role water plays in our daily lives. A safe, reliable water supply is critical to the success of any community. It creates jobs, attracts industry and investment, and provides for the health and welfare of citizens in ways ranging from disease prevention to fire suppression. We often take water resources for granted unless we are living through a drought or when depleted water supplies threaten a community's future. Community organizations and businesses are invited to participate by practicing water conservation and safe water practices.
