SCDA Hosts Be A Bee Workshop

It’s all about the bees! On Saturday, June 11, from 10 to 11 a.m., the S.C. Department of Agriculture, in partnership with Wingard’s Market, will host its Be A Bee Workshop at Wingard’s Nursery & Garden Center (the site of Wingard’s Market), located at 1403 North Lake Drive, in Lexington. Midlands area residents can come and learn how to create a “bee-friendly” backyard from Danny Cannon, of Bee Trail Farms, in Lexington.

Attendees will get to experience how a live working bee hive works. It has been scientifically proven that much of what we eat in terms of fruits, vegetables and plant material trace their origination to bee pollination. Bee populations around the world are currently in decline, so the need to cultivate a sense of awareness and active participation in creating more “bee-friendly” environmental space is vital.

Cost: $10. For more information, call 803-359-9091, email [email protected], or visit WingardsNursery.com/workshops or Agriculture.SC.gov/event/be-a-bee.
