City Selected to Receive Honored Certification

It’s great news for the City of Columbia! The city is getting a quick start on its Sustainability Tools for Assessing and Rating (STAR) certification for communities from the QuickSTARt program. The year-long, all-inclusive program package provides the highest level of training and technical assistance to participants. The City of Columbia was the only government selected from a national pool of applicants for this new program, coordinated by STAR Communities and the Siemens Cities Center of Competence.

Through QuickSTARt, the capital city is on a fast track to becoming the first STAR-certified community in the state. STAR's national sustainability rating system defines community-scale sustainability and presents a vision of how communities can become more healthy, inclusive and prosperous. Created for local governments by local governments, 50 cities and counties across the country have already received certification.

Kudos to Mayor Steve Benjamin and the City of Columbia!
