Experience a Bold Comedy of Love, Honor and Revenge
The University of South Carolina’s Department of Theatre and Dance will present The Courage to Right a Woman’s Wrongs at 7:30 p.m. Friday, November 13, through Sunday, November 15, and Tuesday, November 17, through Friday, November 20, bringing a modern translation of a 17th-century Spanish comedy to the stage.
Written by pioneering playwright Ana Caro, one of Spain’s most revered female dramatists, the play follows Doña Leonor, who devises a daring plan to reclaim her honor after being seduced and abandoned by Don Juan. Disguised as a skilled swordsman named Leonardo, she sets out to hold her former lover accountable. Blending romance, intrigue and sharp social commentary, the production explores a woman’s fight for agency in a society designed to deny it. The play is one of only two surviving works by Caro.
Cost: $15 to $25. Location: 1300 Greene St., Columbia. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit SC.UniversityTickets.com/w/event.aspx?SeriesID=51.
