Kinetic Derby Day

On Saturday, April 26, 2025, unleash your imagination and join us on Meeting and State Streets in West Columbia for a day like no other. The 6th Annual Kinetic Derby Day, featuring iMAGINE, brings to life the enchanting theme of Fantasy Worlds. Step into iconic realms inspired by stories like Harry Potter and The Lord of the Rings, or create your own magical landscapes filled with dragons, castles, and flying cars.

Kinetic Derby Day is a unique celebration that combines creativity, competition, and family fun. Teams from across the community design and race extraordinary vehicles and sculptures in a dazzling showcase of imagination and artistry. The day begins at 11:00 AM with the Kinetic Sculpture Parade, where fantastical, handcrafted creations take center stage. The excitement continues from 11:30 AM to 3:30 PM with side-by-side soapbox racing featuring two thrilling new divisions. The Art Cars Division highlights custom-built vehicles that showcase participants' creativity, while the Kit Cars Division allows racers to personalize pre-built frames. With age categories 8–12, 13–17, and adults, the races offer fun for all generations.

Beyond the races, a wide array of family-friendly activities awaits visitors. You’ll find vibrant chalk art displays and interactive electric car exhibits at the base of the hill. On State Street, the iMAGINE STEAM Festival invites attendees to engage in hands-on activities that explore science, technology, engineering, arts, and math. Little ones can enjoy the Kids’ Zone, featuring mini soapbox racing hosted by the Boys and Girls Club. Meanwhile, the Meeting Street Artisan Market showcases the work of local artisans in the Interactive Art Park. Don't miss the food truck rally and Giant Slide at the corner of Meeting and State Streets, where delicious eats and outdoor fun complete the experience.
